A general practice law firm
WE HANDLE A WIDE VARIETY OF FAMILY LAW MATTERS
REPRESENTATION IN DIVORCE ACTIONS – We handle uncontested divorce matters in which the parties have already reached an agreement as to all outstanding issues of equitable distribution and otherwise. In such cases, we draft a Final Judgment of Divorce and a Property Settlement Agreement setting forth in detail the terms of the agreement which both parties will sign and have notarized. Once the agreement has been signed by both parties, we will file a Complaint for divorce in order to get a docket number for the matter, and will then prepare default documents (as a formality). Next, we will schedule an uncontested hearing with the court. In uncontested actions, the parties could be divorced in as little as a few months and can avoid the time and expense of litigation. We also handle contested divorce actions on a case by case basis, so if you have been served with divorce papers or are considering filing for divorce, please give us a call to discuss your options.
ESTABLISHMENT OF CHILD SUPPORT AND MODIFICATION ISSUES— We can file motions on your behalf seeking to establish child support, custody, and/or other relief. If you have experienced a significant change of circumstances and need to request a modification of your child support or alimony, we can file a motion and supporting documentation on your behalf.
REPRESENTATION IN CUSTODY BATTLES – If you are having a custody dispute with your child’s parent or guardian which cannot be resolved, we can file a motion on your behalf requesting relief from the court. Likewise, we can represent you if you have been served with a motion regarding custody and must defend against same.
ADOPTIONS –If you are seeking to adopt a child or are in the process of doing so and need legal guidance, we can help you.
NAME CHANGES – We handle name change matters in the context of divorce matters, adult name changes, and requests to change the name of minor persons. Name changes in divorce matters are addressed at the time the divorce is finalized, otherwise, the process generally takes a few months. Name changes for minors are more complex as they require additional steps, such as service on the other parent.
